Sarah Cady, LICSW and Amina Khan, MD will lead this discussion on caring for minors who are refugees.
Sarah Cady brings over 20 years’ experience working with foreign-born populations in the education, health, and refugee resettlement arenas. She began working with refugees in Baltimore as an AmeriCorps VISTA organizing a refugee youth program. She has worked as an ESL teacher, refugee resettlement case manger and employment specialist, and programs supervisor. Prior to joining LIRS, Sarah managed the Preferred Communities program at USCRI, an intensive case management program for vulnerable new arrivals. Sarah has been deployed to Fairfax, Virginia for the last six weeks to support LSSNCA in welcoming the Afghan Allies.
Amina Khan, MD, MPH is a pediatric hospitalist attending in the Division of Hospital Medicine at Children’s National Hospital and specializes in the care of children with medical complexity. She has experience with advocacy and care coordination of immigrant and refugee children with special needs. Most recently she co-led the Children’s National and multi-organizational sponsored large health screening event for Afghan refugee children – Stronger Together: Back to School Health Screening for Children of Afghan Allies. Dr. Khan also holds a faculty appointment at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
