International Visitor Education Program

Update: At this time, we are only able to host international visitors with an approved CNH mentor.

Children’s National Hospital frequently hosts visitors in several of our departments for clinical observership, research activities, and medical education. The four kinds of international visitors at Children’s National are described below. The two most frequent kinds of observers are Research Scholars and Clinical Observers.

Types of International Visitors

Visitors with a Prearranged CNH Supervisor/Mentor

International visitors to Children’s National that have prearranged supervisors/mentors should work with their supervisor/mentor (must be a Children’s National Employee and must have approval from department head) to complete the onboarding process facilitated by Special Category. Once approved, please complete a Special Category Associate Application, see below for more information.

Visitors without an Identified CNH Supervisor/Mentor

For potential visitors without an identified supervisor/mentor, departments of interest will be contacted by the international visitor coordinator with a rotation request to assess availability. Due to high demand, CNH is unable to guarantee placement for every request. Please complete this form https://forms.office.com/r/JBgB3MK6py

Steps for Supervisors (CNH Staff) of International Visitors to complete:

Collect the completed international observer in-take form from the observer.
Collect the completed Observer agreement from observer, review and sign. Observer agreement can be found here: https://childrensnational.org/careers-and-training/international-observer-application
Complete the Special Category International verification form which initiates the authorization process for background check upon arrival.
Please complete the standard Special Category verification form.
Complete the US visitor questionnaire (only needed if visa is not sponsored by CNH.)
Email all of the above documents to Special Category in ONE email for faster processing.
