The Global Health Initiative (GHI) aims to fulfill the Children’s National core value of “caring for ALL children” by addressing the need for collaborative global pediatric health care. GHI provides a platform within Children’s National for concerted oversight of health education and research projects involving both experienced faculty and emerging leaders in global health.

Dr. Matthew Bramble
Matthew Bramble, Ph.D., is a global health researcher at Children’s National Hospital whose work is dedicated to understanding and preventing konzo, a rare neurological disease that causes sudden, irreversible paralysis in children living in food-insecure regions of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Douglas Postels, MD, a pediatric neurologist at Children’s National Hospital, has dedicated much of his career to improving the care of children with cerebral malaria and other neurological disorders in Malawi through research, clinical care, and international collaboration.
