Global Health Grand Rounds: GHI Research Director, Dr. Andrea Beaton
September 25, 2017 @ 4:00 am – 5:00 am
2nd floor Auditorium
Join us in the auditorium tomorrow morning at 8am to hear our GHI Research Director, Dr. Andrea Beaton, present Hospital Grand Rounds – “Global Disease Disparity: Re-Examining what we thought we knew about Rheumatic Heart Disease.”
About the session: In the late 19th and early 20th century, acute rheumatic fever was one of the leading causes of child mortality in the United States. Research, education, advocacy and luck led to a dramatic decline to the point where rheumatic fever was considered nearly eliminated in high-income settings. However, rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease continue unabated in many parts of the world, and remain a disease of disparity here at home. Why? And what are we doing?
This presentation is part of our fall 2017 global health course.
