The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is seeking applicants for its newly established Immigration Pediatric Fellowship.
This prestigious one-year paid fellowship will support a pediatrician in contributing thirteen hours per week to AAP’s joint project with Migration Policy Institute (MPI) entitled, Strengthening Medical and Mental Health Services for Unaccompanied Children in Communities. This fellow will provide critical clinical expertise and experience working with immigrant and refugee children and families, synthesizing research and writing to inform the joint AAP-MPI project.
Working remotely with AAP’s Senior Director of Federal and State Advocacy, this fellow will have the opportunity to analyze and advise on the intersection of clinical best practices in care for unaccompanied children and public policy, participate in multi-stakeholder meetings and site visits, collaborate on writing for project-related deliverables, and amplify the lived experience of impacted communities to inform the project.
Seeking a board-certified pediatrician or pediatric sub-specialist who is a Fellow of the AAP and a member of the AAP Council on Immigrant Child and Family Health with three to five years of clinical patient care with direct experience caring for immigrant and refugee children. Strong writing, policy analysis, and project management skills are required. Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in and experience with the intersection of clinical care and immigration policy. Lived experience with immigration and/or refugee laws and policies is strongly preferred.
