Drs. Postels and Golitko will lead a presentation on malaria in children with interactive case discussions.
Dr. Douglas G. Postels, MD, is an associate professor of pediatric neurology at George Washington University and Children’s National Hospital. Dr. Postels has worked in global health since 2009 and has completed and ongoing patient-oriented research projects in western, eastern, and southern Africa. His main research site is the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre, Malawi where Dr. Postels spends upwards of three months a year leading clinical trials in the Pediatric Research Ward and providing both general and pediatric neurological care to patients. This past August, Dr. Postels began as the PI of a Phase I/IIa clinical trial of a cerebral malaria drug, DON, in Malawi.
Dr. Golitko is the Medical Director of the Global Health Initiative here at Children’s National Hospital. After completing her residency at Brown/Rhode Island Hospital she moved to sub-Saharan Africa to work for Texas Children’s Hospital Pediatric AIDS Initiative for 8 years. As a clinical mentor, she worked closely with the Ministry of Health to scale-up Pediatric ART across Swaziland and Malawi. She was fortunate to also live in Kenya and the UK before moving to the DC area. She currently lives in Kampala, Uganda with her family.
