This session will be led by Dr. Steve Wall of Save the Children US.
Dr. Wall is a pediatrician and neonatologist. For over ten years, he has
been the Senior Advisor for Technical Support with Save the Children’s
Saving Newborn Lives program, a global newborn health initiative funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. In this role, Dr. Wall has overseen global and country-based efforts to improve newborn survival through research and innovation, program implementation, and technical assistance and advocacy for policy change, consulting on projects in numerous countries. He also served as an advisor for the landmark Helping Babies Breath initiative rolled out in 2010. Prior to joining Save the Children, Dr. Wall pursued a career as a neonatologist and researcher at Northwestern University Medical School, and the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine.
Session Objectives:
- Define what “child survival” is and its context
- Describe at least four ways the epidemiology for children is changing worldwide and its impact on children from now to 2030
- Name at least two key initiatives associated with the new “child survival” agenda
- Name at least one thing you can do as a pediatrician, nurse, or other child health professional to advance global pediatric care (regardless of where you practice)
